WELCOME !!!

Pirate Ship Wedmore Real Ale Festival Flees Port With Bountiful Plunder

Avast yer scurvy Sea Dogs! £10,000 was raised over the weekend of the 19th, 20th and 21st of September at the Wedmore Real Ale Festival with over 85 barrels of beer, cider and perry being consumed by (blood!) thirsty buccaneers. The beer as always was exceptional, varied in style and everyone found something to their palate.

The gallant, brave and dashing festival sponsors were first through the door on the Friday evening to enjoy an hour of free drinking. The Twerzels, a Wurzels tribute act, proved very popular as they serenaded wild cavorting into the night.

On Saturday evening the pirate theme was heartily embraced. One group actually built a 6 man cardboard galleon resplendent with party popper cannons and escort ships and “sailed” them up and down the length of the high street. The Arrgghh shouting competition was won by Spanish visitor Juan Kornetto, who received a pitcher of gold medal winning ale. Live music was provided by our resident and ever popular rock and blues band “Loose Change”.

The black spot was definitely upon the village on Sunday morning with little stirring before 10am. However many turned up for a cooked breakfast at 11am and enjoyed the papers in the sun until our legendary auction took place. Raising an extra £2,000 into the coffers many festival goers walked away with bargains and happy faces.

The plunder will be divided amongst our primary worthy causes of Wedmore Village Hall and Childrens Hospice South West, as well as a significant number of other worthy local causes. Next years festival is the 10th anniversary and promises to be full of surprises so put the dates of 17th – 19th September in your diaries to avoid missing out!
