The "5 & Live" Wedmore Real Ale
Festival
The "5 & Live" Wedmore Real Ale
Festival was held on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of September 2005 at Wedmore Village Hall.
It was wild and alcoholic and raised £5000 for local worthy
causes. Visit our fundraising page
to find out how it was distributed.

Friday night got off to a roaring start when our esteemed sponsors, and
their guests, turned up for their annual "drink as much free beer as you
can in an hour". After a rousing speech of thanks by organiser
Trevor Prideaux the doors were opened and the public streamed in.
A huge quantity of beer was consumed
together with a whole pig and with the gentle Irish tones of "Gang
Green" soothing the revellers into an easy evening of rude jokes and
story telling. With every ones wheels then well oiled DJ Enhance
laid on the dancing tunes and soon the whole hall was pumping with
dancing drunken souls.
On Saturday the golden rule of the
festival was broken when all the organisers were knocked out of the
shove the euro competition by the quarter final stage. Disaster!
Some were inconsolable. The title now resides in Wells but will be
won back by a member of the committee next year.
Ask anyone who came to Saturday
night, Loose Change played their best ever set for us. The
atmosphere was electric, the crowd were awesome and all the beer was
consumed, even the stuff we nicked from the pub. To be honest it
was a job to get people to go home when the close came.
Our heads were so heavy on Sunday
morning that the organisers had gin and tonics with our breakfast.
Whilst one of our membership magically produced some keys for Butcombe
Bitter Brewery and headed off to find some more barrels of beer the rest
went back to the hall to start the cleaning up. Punters arrived
before the beer did and had to make do with Scrumpy cider (there are
worse things that could happen).
The Chalice Morris Men put on an
excellent display, 5 more barrels of beer were consumed, the grand
raffle was drawn and an auction of promises and tangible goods raised
more money.
We haven't done the final accounts
yet but we expect to be able to give away at least £5000 this year.
Thanks go to everyone for the support.
